Maintenance Hangers, Heathrow by Paul KJ Harris
I remember 3 Hangers, but not sure if they were numbered 1, 2, 3, or I think 2, 3, 4 (not sure why though!). The 1st Hanger was for vehicle maintenance, the 2nd (middle) hanger for short turn-round aircraft maintenance, and the 3rd for long hall aircraft maintenance. I remember the Stores were in the middle Hanger. It was always fascinating driving into the Car Parks as these were adjacent to and opposite the Hangers, and on occasions we had to stay to one side if an aircraft was on the move! I joined, along with Will Mahoney; at I believe the 1965 intake of Apprentices. I stayed right to the very end, November 1968. Will went to BOAC; I left and went into Water Treatment. Will I are still close friends.
