Capt John Gerrish
It is with sadness that I have to record the passing of Capt. John Gerrish. John had been ill for some time although he was always cheery when I called for a chat in recent days. He was a great help with information about British Eagle he started with Eagle at Blackbushe in the mid 50's. Like many he had so many stories to tell. Like the one after he had landed on Christmas Island just before they exploded the first Atom bomb. Sticking to the rules, he had run out of duty time, so he stayed put on the Island much to the disgust of the CO and witness the whole event with other members of the crew. For a while the crew were known at the sterile seven !
John always maintained that he was the oldest pilot in the world. This was due to a mistake in the date of a medical certificate issued in 1967 but dated 15th August 1867!
We send our condolences to his wife Gill and the family.
The funeral is as follows:
Monday 10th JULY
Time 1630hrs
at Bury ST. Edmunds Crematorium
Also, Some of you might know this already but sadly Dave Fellowes Flight Safety Officer with Eagle passed away recently. Amongst other things Dave served in the RAF Bomber Command as an air gunner. To see a little bit of his live story see U tube 'RAF Benevolent Fund 70th anniversary of operation Mana. Interview with RAF veteran Dave Fellowes'
