Which was the last.... by jon61954
...aircraft existing in BE colours prior to the restoration of G-APSA and G-ANCF? I recall seeing a faded Britannia lined up with the usual Monarch and Britannia Airways examples nearing the end of their lives at Luton when I flew from there on 29 April 1970 and returned on 14 May. I have tried to identify this machine using the notes I took at the time, but can find no BE examples logged on the days in question, just G-AOVG, H and L of Monarch, and G-ANBL O of Britannia. Which leads me to believe that it may have been on my previous years flight on 5/5/69 when I saw this machine. On this date I logged Britannia’s G-ANBA, G-AOVI L of Monarch, and G-AOVK. I did not enter the latters identity, but I now understand she became a source of spares there after withdrawal and was broken up in February 1970. However, 5/5/69 would only have been six months after the end so she should not have been all that faded. I still say there was an Eagle-liveried Britannia at Luton as late as April 1970. Anybody got any ideas?

I think that this aircraft is the one that you might have seen at Luton. G-AOVK said to have been chopped Feb 1970. Please note that pictures can only be seem by members. So why not become a member and enjoy this option.

Viscount G-ANRS, sold to Cambrian as a cabin trainer, was in still in Eagle colours until summer 1970 from what I can tell
